Jamaica

April 21, 2021

My absolute favorite backdrop to practice is beachside, hands down. The energy are unmatched. True to my sign, it’s the layers of earth elements for me. The breeze, sun, sand, and sounds of waves. It’s a full out grounding experience. I was fortunate enough to spend some time in Jamaica celebrating my sisters’s soon to be nuptials (Shout out to the Parkers). After delayed flights, countless checkpoints, 3 covid tests, and a partridge in a pair tree it was all worth it.

Whether I like it or not I have an internal clock that wakes me at about 7 am and it doesn’t give a damn where in the world I am. So every morning I’d find myself in a hammock appreciating the sun, and surroundings. “Yoga girl, wah gwann”. “Mi arie!” After hitting the hammock I’d walk the waters giving thanks to my ancestors whose spirits inhabit the sea. The Caribbean waters have a rich tumultuous history to african descendants. So I’d be remiss not to acknowledge it.

I’d Unroll my mat and zone out across the ocean. Its a scared experience that I really can’t put into words. The connection in those moments, were full. I’d get lost in my practice, and come to for a second when I saw a local on a boat waving. Not to break topic but shout out to the locals with the welcome energy. My practice brings me full circle in moments like this. Allows me to appreciate the evolution of my life.

Aside from yoga it was a ton of turn up. Yachting, swimming and snorkeling. Saw nemo and the gang, while trying not to think about sharks. Dolphins racing beside the yacht. Authentic 4 course meal at Kimbali Retreat. Cliff jumping at Rick’s cafe. Laughs, shots, and 2 am grill cheeses. At one point anchored in the middle of the ocean catching watching the sunset. There are several places in the world I’d like to visit, and each bears some sort of cultural or spiritual relevance. I have to have that mix, yin and yang. So i.e a trip to Miami wont do it.

Jamaica is one of those places.
